Meet Laurent Martin

Meet Laurent Martin, that's me, the clown.   I own an independent Web and Print Design Business right down the hall, Austin Design Shop. The folks at Slapsale.com and I got along so well that they hired me to be their social networking director. In addition to helping them design promotional materials, like postcards and web banners, I write for and develop the slapsale.com social network.  So if your reading the blog, facebook, or twitter than I'm the author.
Before I started Austin Design Shop, I traveled the country as a clown, Lowrent the clown. Booking, promoting, and performing for a vaudevillian show, The 999 EYES.  In that time I developed a lot of experience with a variety of internet, artistic, business, and promotional skills, and some clown skills too. My signature act was quite spectacular.  I would come out on stage and start pumping up a large air cannon, at which point I would be joined by a lobster person and a 36" woman who would assist in loading the cannon with a hot dog.  Once all the preparations were made they would shoot the hot dog, with a burst of smoke, straight across the stage, and on the other side, I would catch it in my mouth.

Meet Brett Neal

Meet Brett Neal.  He just recently started working for slapsale this month and so far he fits right in.  On the surface Brett seems like a real stand up guy, he's a clean dresser, with an appropriately conservative sales presence.  But peak a little closer and and find out that Brett is a passionate musician, an experienced rock n roller and Honky Tonk Country musician.

Brett Neal came to Austin from Bakersfield California. He is a graduate of the Missouri Auction School and has received training in all aspects of the auction business.  He brings a strong background in sales and a diverse experience as an auctioneer to Shattuck and Associates.  In addition to Auctioneering, Brett is a musician who has played in the honkytonks and clubs around the Bakersfield and Los Angeles area. His love of music of all kinds is a big reason why he chose to relocate to the “Live Music Capital of the World”.

Slapsale Commissions 5th Grade Art Class

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.

For a while, we've been chatting at the Slapsale.Com office about clearing out the lobby and putting up some interesting art. Once the space was clear Greg Shattuck, the owner, took a creative and philanthropic approach to buying art. Wanting to support education and the local arts Greg approached the Austin Independent School District about a commission.

When approached about the possibility of accepting this assignment, Ms. Ober, an art teacher, said that the school district can only afford to allocate $3.30 per student per year for art supplies. They gladly accepted the commission and it shows by the amazing pieces of art they made for us. Ms. Ober's 5th grade art class at Maplewood Elementary in Austin made 48 original robot stencil art paintings and we love them.

The plan is to offer this group of paintings at auction on Slapsale.Com at some point in the future and donate all the proceeds to the school. If you'd like to see the paintings, or if you would like to commission your own art project, get in touch and we'll be glad to help out!

We hope you enjoy the paintings as much as we do.

Welcome to the Slapsale Blog

Hello,

Welcome to the new Slapsale blog.  We are a locally minded auction and appraisal company in East Austin that works with some rather big companies, and sell some really big items.  We move and sell, at auction, a variety of medical, industrial and commercial items.  We are fully licensed and insured to handle, transport and sell just about anything, and we do.  We used to be a live auction company but these days we've been handling most our auctions online at our site, slapsale.com.

We are just saying hi, check back often or subscribe to our feed to learn more about who we are, where we work, and what we do.
